Agassiz Baldwin Community

The kindergarten children are located in three rooms of the first floor at the Agassiz Community Center at 20 Sacramento St., an old frame house with a spacious backyard. It includes a teacher director, a teacher, assistant teachers and work study students.

The first through fifth graders are located in the Agassiz School at 28 Sacramento Street, four doors down from the Community Center.

This program includes a director, a site director, four teachers, assistant teachers and work study students as well as specialists in dance, visual art, drama, music, sewing, martial arts, and more. Special work shops and activities are planned throughout the year.

Children are met at their school or bus and escorted to the program by staff. They begin with a snack, then a meeting where the day is discussed. Choices are a mixture of free time and planned activities, both quiet and active. The older the children, the more comprehensive the choices. The average ratio off students per staff is 1-10, although groups vary in size depending on the activity. Each month children are taken to a first rate children's performance that includes dance, drama, music from the top performers for children in the Boston metro area.

Children are bussed from all public schools in Cambridge, Afterschool is in session for all half days and not in session for all full day school closings. There are special vacation week programs that provide programming for all but the holiday.

Activities are over by 5:30. Parents are asked to pick children up no later that 5:45, but staff remain until 6 pm. Late fees are strictly enforced.
